Quick answer

Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, and the museum asks for one adult for every three children. Strollers are not allowed inside, but a front baby carrier is. Bring a change of clothes, hold small hands tightly in the dark areas, and expect an ID check for ages and school affiliation.

Ages and adults

The booking page says children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult, and that unaccompanied minors are not allowed. The museum is more exact: children under 13 cannot be admitted without a parent or guardian over 18, and there must be one accompanying adult for every three children, including children who are eligible for free entry. It asks you to make sure children enter together with their parent or guardian.

Proof of age

Visitors are asked to show ID for proof of age or school affiliation. The museum also says it may ask for ID from anyone who bought a junior or senior high school ticket in its own store. Bring a passport or an ID card for each adult, and for older children carry whatever shows their age. The museum's own ticket types, which this site does not sell, give free entry to children aged three and under.

Strollers, carriers and the baby room

Baby strollers are not allowed in the museum. A stroller parking area outside lets you lock yours with a wire key, and visitors with infants may enter with a front baby carrier. There are diaper tables in the museum's bathrooms, and for breastfeeding or rest it has a first aid room, which you can ask staff about. For people carrying children in their arms, the museum includes them in its caution list.

Water, wet clothes and the koi work

There is water in certain areas, with levels that can reach knee height for adults, and the museum says it is not for swimming. It recommends that small children wear clothes they do not mind getting wet or bring a change. For safety and hygiene, guests with an inseam of less than 40 cm cannot experience the koi work on the water surface, unless accompanied by a guardian carrying them in a baby carrier or in their arms.

Dark rooms and holding hands

The museum warns that the exhibition features dark spaces and asks parents never to let go of their child's hand or let a child out of their control. It also notes an area with strong stimulating lights. If a child is nervous, detour routes let visitors with children skip certain artworks, and the museum asks you to tell the nearest staff member. At busy times, guests who stay in one room for long may be asked to move forward.

Play areas

The Forest area, which opened in January 2025, includes a creative movement space called Athletics Forest, an educational project called Future Park and a Catching and Collecting Forest, according to Wikipedia. The museum says Catching and Collecting Extinct Forest can be enjoyed with a smartphone app, where you capture animals on the wall and keep them in a collection book. Phones are therefore part of the fun for older children.

Who this isn't for

If your child will not be separated from shoes, will not tolerate wet legs or is frightened by dark rooms, the water areas will be a struggle, and the ticket is non-refundable. If your child is too young to be carried or to hold your hand through crowded dark spaces, the museum's rules and its warnings about children suggest weighing carefully whether to go at all. Teenagers who like to be active are the easiest fit.
